Lesson 8. Ubuntu

우분투

A man from a foreign country lived in an African village. 

외국에서 온 한 남자가 아프리카 마을에서 살았다.

One day, when he was walking in the village, he met a group of children. 

어느 날, 그가 그 마을을 걷고 있을 때, 그는 아이들 한 그룹을 만났다.

The children waved and smiled at him brightly. 

아이들이 손을 흔들며 그를 보고 밝게 웃었다. 

Their smiles made him happy. 

그들의 미소가 그를 행복하게 만들었다.

 

So the man thought of a game for them. 

그래서 그는 그들을 위해 게임을 생각해냈다. 

He put candies in a basket and placed it under a tree. 

그는 바구니에 사탕들을 넣고 그것을 나무 아래에 두었다.

Then he said, "Children, run to the basket. 

그리고나서 그는 말했다. “애들아, 그 바구니까지 달려. 

The first person there will get all the candies."

거기에 제일 먼저 도착한 사람은 사탕 모두를 얻을 거야.”

The man drew a line on the ground, and the children stood there.

“제자리에, 준비, 시작!” 그 남자는 큰소리로 말했다. 

"Ready, set, go!" The man said loudly.

그 남자는 땅에 선을 그렸고 아이들은 거기에 섰다. 

 

 

But, surprisingly, the children did not race to the basket. 

하지만 놀랍게도, 그 아이들은 바구니까지 경주하지 않았다.

They held one another's hands and ran together. 

그들은 서로의 손을 잡고 함께 뛰었다.

The children arrived at the tree all at the same time and shared the candies.

그 아이들은 모두 동시에 그 나무에 도착했고 그 사탕들을 나눴다.

Everyone was happy. The man could not believe his eyes.

모두가 행복했다. 그 남자는 그의 눈을 믿을 수 없었다.

 

He went over to them and asked, 

그가 그들에게 다가가서 물었다. 

"Why did you run together?" 

“왜 너희는 함께 뛰었니 ?' 

The children shouted, "Ubuntu!" 

그 아이들은 소리쳤다. "우분투!"

One girl added, "How can we be happy when others are sad?" 

한 소녀가 덧붙였다,  “다른 애들이 슬퍼할 때 어떻게 우리가 기뻐할 수 있나요?”

 

This is a beautiful story about ubuntu. 

이것은 우분투에 대한 아름다운 이야기이다. 

Ubuntu means "I am because we are." 

우분투는 “우리가 있기 때문에 내가 있다.”를 의미한다.

Simply, it means care and love. 

간단히 말해서, 그것은 보살핌과 사랑을 의미한다. 

When we keep the idea of ubuntu, we can all live happy lives. 

우리가 우분투라는 생각을 유지하면, 우리는 모두 행복한 삶을 살 수 있다.

Let's all practice ubuntu. 

우리 모두 우분투를 실천하자. 

We are one human family.

우리는 한 가족이다.
