W: May I have your attention, please? This is your store manager Megan speaking. The cold season is already here and we know that heavy snow is on the way. Some of you may remember the incident last winter when a store customer was injured from slipping on ice on the sidewalk in front of the store. Ice on the sidewalk poses a danger to our customers. So I’d like to ask all employees to make sure that the sidewalk in front of the store remains free of ice and snow. The safety of our customers is the most important value to us. Your attention and effort to keep them safe is highly appreciated. Thank you very much.
M: Angela, you seem a little tired.
W: I think I didn’t sleep well last night. Strangely, since I moved a few days ago, I haven’t had a good night’s sleep.
M: Why? Don’t you like your new place?
W: Yes, I love it. For some reason, though, I’m just very tired when I wake up in the morning.
M: Is there anything different from your previous place?
W: Well, at my new place there’s a dim light from the streets that comes through the window.
M: Maybe that’s affecting your body condition.
W: What do you mean?
M: Being exposed to light at night can disturb your sleep, making you tired.
W: But it doesn’t seem that bright.
M: I know, but even just a little light from the streets can prevent you from getting into a deep sleep. That’s why you feel tired every morning.
W: I see. Then I should get curtains for my window.

M: It’s been a while since I’ve been to your office to interview you. It seems brighter.
W: You’re right. Last fall, I remodeled the office.
M: I see. Oh, the books on the bookshelf there are those you published, aren’t they?
W: Yes, they are.
M: Anyway, let’s talk about your bookselling record last year. You set a bookselling record. Is it correct?
W: Yes. I’d like to thank my staff who corrected printing mistakes with me.
M: The Reason for Travel was the 2020 Book of the Year, wasn’t it?
W: Yes. The author of that book has a new book coming out later this year.
M: You definitely have an eye for good writers.
W: Thank you for saying so.
M: Can I take a picture of you holding this book? I’d like to put it in our magazine.
W: Sure.

W: Max, look at my new laptop wallpaper.
M: Let me see. [Pause] Oh, it’s a picture of some kids playing on the playground.
W: Yeah. Isn’t this girl on the seesaw cute?
M: Yes, she is. And she seems to love the backpack she’s wearing.
W: She sure does. She’s even wearing it while riding on the seesaw.
M: A soccer ball is next to the boy sitting on the other side of the seesaw. It seems that he likes to play soccer.
W: Right. Can you recognize the girl who’s going down the elephant-shaped slide?
M: Sure. She’s your daughter. Oh, she’s sliding with a balloon in her hand.
W: She was afraid it’d fly off.
M: By the way, the girl sitting on the swing looks familiar. Do I know her, too?
W: Oh, she’s my niece Jennifer. Her family lives in our neighborhood. You probably saw her once or twice.
M: I see. All of them seem to be having a good time.

W: Good morning, Mr. Taylor.
M: Angela? Come in. What’s up?
W: Could you print a file on this USB drive for me? My printer at home isn’t working.
M: Of course.
W: Thanks. Here’s the USB drive. The file name is Science Project.
M: Okay. Let me see. [Mouse clicking sound] Oh, there seems to be a problem with your file. I can’t open it.
W: Really? I must’ve made a mistake when copying the file onto the USB drive.
M: I’m sorry to hear that. In that case, I’m not sure I can help you.
W: Oh, I also stored the file in my online storage.
M: Oh, that’s good! Then you can open it now, right?
W: Yes. May I use your computer for a moment?
M: Sure. Go ahead.
W: Thank you.

W: Good afternoon. Can I help you find something?
M: Yes. I’m looking to buy a camera.
W: Well, you came to the right store. We’ve got a lot of cameras. What kind are you looking for?
M: I want the new mirrorless camera from the PICS
company. How much is it?
W: You must mean the SR2. It’s $900.
M: Oh, it’s a little more expensive than I expected.
W: Then how about this one? It’s an old model, but it has almost the same functions as the SR2 and the price is $200 lower.
M: Great. I’ll take it. And what lens do you recommend?
W: I recommend this one. It works really well with this camera.
M: How much is that?
W: It’s normally $500, but I can give you a 20% discount on it since you’re buying the camera, too.
M: Thanks so much. I’ll take that, too.

M: Hey, Andrea.
W: Hey, Jim. Sorry I couldn’t answer the phone when you called earlier. I was volunteering at the nursing home with my sister. What’s up?
M: I was calling about the book you asked me to check out from the library.
W: Oh, did you get it?
M: No. I couldn’t remember the name of the book when I was at the library.
W: I wrote down its title, Everything of Current Affairs,
on a note.
M: I know, but I must’ve lost the piece of paper you wrote it on.
W: I understand. It’s okay. I can check out the book tomorrow morning.
M: Thank you for being so understanding. By the way, why do you need the book?
W: I need it for my reading club meeting next Saturday.
It’s the book about current affairs in 2020.
M: I see. I’m sorry again for not checking out the book.

M: What are you doing, Sherry?
W: I’m trying to book a musical online.
M: What musical?
W: Big Game. It’s based on the original story of the famous movie Big Game.
M: Oh, I love that movie! In fact, the screenwriter of that movie is my favorite.
W: Oh, what a coincidence! You know what? He wrote the script for the musical, too.
M: Really? When do you plan on seeing it? Maybe I’ll join you.
W: That’d be cool. I want to get tickets for 8:00 p.m. this Wednesday. Is that okay with you?
M: Well. I usually work out at a fitness center near my
office after work. I finish around 6:30 p.m. Where’s it playing?
W: It’s at the Nuri Arts Center.
M: The Nuri Arts Center? Perfect! That’s near the fitness center. I can join you.

M: Honey, what are you looking at?
W: A website that sells smartphones. It’s about time to get a new one.
M: I agree. Yours is ancient! Let’s see those. What do you think about this model?
W: It’s good, but I want at least 64 GB of storage.
M: Yeah, right. Oh, these models have a lot of camera lenses. That’d be good for taking pictures for social media.
W: Right. I want a smartphone with four lenses or more.
M: And I’m sure when it comes to color you don’t want black or gray.
W: Yeah. You know me. I like bright colors.
M: Then, it comes down to these two models. What’s your price range?
W: I’d like to spend less than $900. M: Then, this is the one to choose. W: Yup. I’ll get it.

W: Jacob, you’re really good at magic.
M: Thanks. Have you thought about learning magic?
It’s a great way to entertain people.
W: I’d love to, but learning magic seems too difficult for me.
M: Don’t worry. The more you practice it, the easier it gets.

M: Nicole, what are you doing?
W: Hi, Josh. I’m trying to finish up my social studies report.
M: Oh. What is it about?
W: It’s about population decrease.
M: Interesting. How’s it going?
W: So far so good, but I need to make a topic sentence, and it’s not so easy. Can you help me?
M: Of course. So tell me what happens when a population starts to decrease.
W: First, there’s a reduction in production activity.
M: Right. And what else will happen?
W: There’ll be a significant decrease in consumption activity over time because there’ll be fewer people.
M: Okay. So now just summarize what a decrease in population affects in one sentence.
W: A decrease in population can worsen production and consumption activities.

W: Tony, I heard that you have been taking a computer programming class. Do you like it?
M: At first, I was really excited to take it, but I’m not now.
W: Really? Why’s that?
M: Programming is way more difficult than I thought.
W: It’s brand new to you right now. It’ll get easier over time.
M: That’s what my instructor says, but it seems I’m gradually losing interest in it. I don’t know how you’re so good at it.
W: There were times when I wanted to give up learning computer programing like you because I felt it was too difficult.
M: But how did you get through those times?
W: Whenever I wanted to give up, I thought about how passionate I was when I started.
M: What do you mean by that?
W: I used to remind myself of my enthusiasm when learning how to program at first. I’m sure that could work for you too.
M: Okay. I’ll do that when I feel really overwhelmed.

Mike is sure he is in the wrong place. So he calls Jenny and wants to ask her again about the exact place where she lives. In this situation, what would Mike most likely say to Jenny?
Mike: Can you tell me your exact home address again, please?

W: Hello, listeners. I’m Susan Young, your health advisor. I’m sure you’ve noticed that fine dust pollution has been getting worse these days. Well, here are some things you can do to lessen the damage of it. First, wearing a mask outside is a must. Make sure to tightly fasten the straps around your ears so that the mask fits well around your mouth and nose. When you return home, brushing off your clothes with a brush outside the front door keeps fine dust from getting into your house. Also, because breathing in fine dust indoors can actually be more harmful than breathing it in outdoors, use an air cleaner in your home. It absorbs fine dust particles. Finally, wash your hands and face, and rinse your mouth with salt water whenever you return home from being outside. Salt water is especially good for washing off fine dust in your mouth. If you follow these recommendations, you can minimize the harmful effects of fine dust. Thank you for listening.
