희망의 씨앗을 심기

 많은 사람들이 반갑지 않은 손님과 가까이 있지 않기 위해 봄에 마스크를 쓰고 있다. 그것은 황사다.

Many people are wearing masks so that they can keep away from an unwelcome guest in the spring: yellow dust.

 해마다, 한국에는 황사가 광범위하게 퍼진다. 

Every year, there is widespread yellow dust in Korea.

황사가 그들의 눈과 목을 해하기 때문에 많은 사람들은 아프다. 

Many people become sick because the yellow dust hurts their eyes and throats.

황사는 왜 발생하는 걸까? 

Why does the yellow dust come about? 

황사를 막을 어떤 방법이 있는 걸까? 그렇다, 방법이 있다! 

Is there any way to stop the yellow dust?  Yes, there is! 

중국, 간쑤성의 몇몇 자원봉사자들의 활동을 통해 황사문제의 원인과 해결책을 알아보자.

  Let's take a look at the causes of and the solutions to the problem of yellow dust through the work of some volunteers in Gansu Sheng, China.

     

Li Na (16세의 중학생)

Li Na (16, a middle school student)

 오래전에, 이 장소는 큰 숲이었다. 

A long time ago, this place was a big forest.

그러나 사람들은 도시를 짓기 위해 나무를 자르기 시작했다. 

But people began to cut down trees so that they could build cities. 

시간이 지나면서, 숲은 많은 나무를 잃었다. 

As time passed, the forest lost many trees.

마침내, 숲은 사막이 되었고 사막은 점점 더 커졌다. 

Finally, the forest became a desert and the desert became bigger and bigger.

이제는, 봄에 서쪽에서 강한 바람이 불어올 때면, 황사가 퍼져나간다. 

 Now, when the spring brings strong winds from the west, the yellow dust spreads.

과거에, 대부분의 사람들은 황사 문제를 막을 방법을 알지 못했다. 

In the past, most people did not know how to stop the yellow dust problem.

이제, 많은 자원봉사자들이 이 문제를 해결하기 위해 나무를 심는다.

Now, many volunteers plant trees to solve this problem.

 

민수 (18세의 고등학생)

Minsu (18, a high school student)

 사막에 나무를 심는 것은 어렵고 비용이 많이 든다. 

Planting trees in the desert is hard and expensive.

그러나, 많은 중국 사람들은 그들이 나무를 심지 않는다면 살 수 없다는 것을 안다. 

However, many Chinese people know that they cannot live if they don't plant trees.

그들은 항상 우리 한국 자원봉사자들이 그들과 함께 나무를 심기 때문에, 우리에게 감사한다. 

 

   They always thank us, Korean volunteers, because we plant trees with them. 

그러나, 우리는 중국뿐만 아니라 한국도 돕기 위해 나무를 심는다.

However, we plant trees to help not only China but also Korea.

수지 (15세의 중학생)

Suji (15, a middle school student)

 처음에, 나는 황사를 없애기 위해 무엇을 해야 할지 몰랐다. 

 At first, I didn't know what to do to get rid of the yellow dust.

그때, 나의 모임 리더인 민수가 내게 나무를 심는 것이 이 문제를 해결하는 것을 도울 수 있다고 말했다. 

 Then, Minsu, my group leader, told me that planting trees can help to solve the problem. 

나는 또한 나무를 심는 것과 환경을 보호하는 것이 나의 가족과 나를 돕는다는 것을 알게 되었다.

I also found out that planting trees and protecting the environment help my family and me.

중국에서, 많은 사람들이 황사의 확산을 막기 위해 사막에 나무를 심고 있다. 

In China, many people are planting trees in deserts so that they can stop the spread of the yellow dust. 

작업은 쉽지 않지만 그들은 세계를 보호하기 위해 열심히 일하고 있다. 

The work is not easy, but they are working hard to protect the world. 

이런 세계적인 단합으로, 희망의 씨앗들이 계속 자라고 있다.

With this kind of global togetherness, the seeds of hope will keep on growing.
