<장면 1.>

 

  Take Control of Your Life

 The Cat Just Couldn't Help It

Scene #1.

An old and tired mouse enters.

Mouse: (He is out of breath.) I'm tired of running from Cat. I am too old to run. If I were free, I would be so happy. (He thinks for a while.) Oh, I have an idea!

Scene #2.

Mouse goes and gets something from the back of the stage. Cat enters and catches Mouse.

Mouse: (He pretends to beg.) I'm too smelly for you to eat! Instead, have this, please. (He gives a box of sugar to Cat.)

Cat: (He tastes it. His eyes get bigger.) What is it? Give me more!

Mouse: It's sugar. If you let me go, I'll bring you some every day.

Scene #3.

It is at Cat's house. Cat, now fat, is eating sugar. He has only a few teeth. Dog is watching him.

Dog: (He is worried.) Cat, my friend, be careful. The sugar will get bitter.

Cat: What do you mean by that?

Dog: Look at yourself! You are too fat to run, and your teeth are too weak to chew!

Cat: (He eats more.) Why should I run or chew? Sugar is the only thing I need. I can't live without it.

Dog goes out sadly.

Scene #4.

Cat has almost emptied the box of sugar. Mouse enters.

Mouse: (He smiles.) I think my plan has worked.

Cat: (He is angry.) It's almost empty! Mouse, tell me where you get it.

Mouse: I have a friend who makes sugar. But he's scared of your claws. If you get rid of them, you can meet him soon.

Cat: Okay!

Scene #5.

Mouse hands Cat a pair of scissors and Cat cuts his claws.

Cat: I'm ready! Now take me to your friend!

Mouse: (He laughs at Cat.) You stupid cat! If you were fast, and had your sharp teeth and claws, I'd listen to you. But you no longer have them now! You have lost your biggest weapons! Why should I listen to what you say now? (He runs away.)

Cat: What! (He tries to run after Mouse, but fails.) Oh! I'm too fat to run after him!

나이 들고 지친 쥐 한 마리가 들어온다.

Mouse: (그는 숨이 차다.) 나는 Cat으로부터 달아나는 것에 질렸어. 나는 너무 늙어서 달릴 수가 없어. 만약 내가 자유로워진다면, 나는 정말 행복할 텐데. (그는 잠깐 동안 생각한다.) 오, 내게 좋은 생각이 났어!

<장면 2.>

Mouse는 무대 뒤로 가서 무언가를 가져온다. Cat이 들어와 Mouse를 잡는다.

Mouse: (그는 비는 척한다.) 저는 너무 냄새가 나서 당신이 잡아먹을 수 없어요! 대신, 이걸 드세요. (그는 설탕 상자를 고양이에게 준다.)

Cat: (그는 그것을 맛본다. 그의 눈이 커진다.) 이게 뭐야? 나에게 더 내놔!

Mouse: 그것은 설탕이에요. 만약에 당신이 저를 가게 해 준다면, 제가 매일 가져다 드릴게요.

<장면 3.>

Cat의 집이다. 지금은 뚱뚱한 Cat이 설탕을 먹고 있다. 그는 이빨이 몇 개 밖에 없다. Dog가 그를 바라보고 있다.

Dog: (그는 걱정스러워한다.) 내 친구 Cat, 조심해. 그 설탕은 쓰게 될 거야.

Cat: 그게 무슨 뜻이야?

Dog: 네 자신을 봐! 너는 너무 뚱뚱해서 달릴 수 없고, 너의 이빨은 너무 약해서 씹을 수 없잖아!

Cat: (그는 더 먹는다.) 왜 내가 뛰거나 씹어야 해? 나에게 필요한 단 한 가지는 설탕이야. 나는 그것 없이는 살 수 없어.

Dog가 슬프게 나간다.

<장면 4.>

Cat은 설탕 상자를 거의 비웠다. Mouse가 들어온다.

Mouse: (그는 미소를 짓는다.) 내 계획이 효과가 있는 것 같군.

Cat: (그는 화가 났다.) 거의 비었잖아! Mouse, 네가 어디서 그것을 가져오는지 말해!

Mouse: 내게는 설탕을 만드는 친구가 있어요. 하지만 그는 당신의 발톱을 무서워한답니다. 만약 당신이 그것들을 없애버린다면, 당신은 곧 그를 만날 수 있을 거예요.

Cat: 좋아!

<장면 5.>

Mouse가 Cat에게 가위를 건네고 Cat은 자신의 발톱을 자른다.

Cat: 나는 준비가 됐어! 이제 네 친구에게 나를 데려다줘!

Mouse: (그는 Cat을 비웃는다.) 멍청한 고양이! 만약 네가 빠르고 너의 날카로운 이빨과 발톱을 가지고 있다면, 나는 네 말을 들었을 텐데. 하지만 넌 이제 그것들을 더 이상 가지고 있지 않아! 넌 너의 가장 큰 무기들을 잃었어! 내가 왜 지금 네가 말하는 것을 들어야 하지? (그는 도망가 버린다.)

Cat: 뭐라고! (Cat이 Mouse를 쫓아가려고 하지만, 실패한다.) 오! 나는 너무 뚱뚱해서 그를 쫓아갈 수가 없어!
