D-14 '학급 행사의 날'에 관한 논의 시작

 

Our school has a Class Event Day once a year.

우리 학교에는 일 년에 한 번씩 '학급 행사의 날'이 있다.

 

Today we had a class meeting and discussed what we would do for the Class Event Day this year.

오늘 우리는 학급 회의를 열고 올해 '학급 행사의 날'에 무엇을 할지 논의했다.

 

We were talking about the food we would make as we did the previous year and I immediately got bored.

우리는 작년에 그랬던 것처럼 우리가 만들 음식에 관해 이야기했고 나는 곧바로 지루해졌다.

 

What difference does it make?

뭐가 달라지겠어?

 

It's just a meal.

단지 식사 한 끼일 뿐인데.

 

Just then, Jiwon raised his hand and suggested doing a class project in which we express gratitude to the people who work for us.

바로 그 때, 지원이가 손을 들고 우리를 위해 일해 주시는 분들에게 감사를 표현하는 학급 프로젝트를 하자고 제안했다.

 

He named it A Day to Express Gratitude.

그는 그것을 '감사 표현의 날'로 이름 지었다.

 

This was unheard of!

D-11 Looking for hidden heroes in our school

D-11 우리 학교의 숨은 영웅들 찾기

 

During lunch break, we discussed whom to thank.

점심시간 동안 우리는 누구에게 감사해야 할지에 관해 논의했다.

 

Jiwon said, "What about holding an event for the crossing guard?"

지원이는 "교통 정리원분들을 위해 이벤트를 개최하는 게 어때?"라고 말했다.

 

Yeri said, "I recommend the repair person who usually fixes all the appliances in our school."

예리는 "나는 학교의 모든 기기를 주로 고쳐 주시는 수리 기사분을 추천해."라고 말했다.

 

I added, "I want to express gratitude to the food service workers.

나는 "나는 급식 직원분들에게 감사를 표하고 싶어.

 

They're in charge of cooking and serving our lunch every day.

그분들은 매일 우리 점심을 조리하고 나누어 주는 일을 담당하고 계시잖아.

 

There are about 700 students in our school and I don't think it's easy to prepare such a large amount of food."

우리 학교에는 대략 700명 정도의 학생이 있고, 그렇게 많은 양의 음식을 준비하는 것은 쉽지 않을 거라고 생각해."라고 덧붙였다.

 

Some students wanted to hold an event for every hidden hero, but that was unrealistic.

We decided to narrow down the candidates.

우리는 후보를 좁히기로 결정했다.

 

We argued for a while and everyone agreed to accept the majority decision.

Almost all of my classmates chose the food service workers!

We talked about what we needed for our class event.

우리는 학급 행사를 위해 무엇이 필요한지에 관해 이야기했다.

 

We agreed to write a thank-you card for the food service workers.

우리는 급식 직원분들을 위해 감사 카드를 쓰는 것에 동의했다.

 

Also, we thought it would be nice to make some food for them because they always cook for us.

또한 그분들이 항상 우리를 위해 요리하시기 때문에 우리가 그분들을 위해서 음식을 만드는 것이 좋겠다고 생각했다.

 

Yeri quickly said she would make sandwiches with some friends.

예리는 친구 몇 명과 함께 샌드위치를 만들겠다고 얼른 말했다.

 

But how can we give them the thank-you card and sandwiches? I asked.

그런데 그분들께 감사 카드와 샌드위치를 어떻게 드리지?라고 내가 질문했다.

 

A variety of great ideas followed.

다양한 좋은 아이디어들이 뒤따랐다.

 

Why don't we invite them into our classroom?

그분들을 우리 교실로 초대하는 건 어떨까?

 

Then, we need to decorate the room!

그럼 교실을 장식해야겠다!

 

How can we get them here?

그분들을 여기로 어떻게 모셔오지?

 

How about inviting them with a flash mob during lunch time?

Somin concluded, "Good! Let's make three groups: Sandwiches, Decorations, and Flash Mob."

소민이가 "좋아! 그럼 샌드위치, 교실 꾸미기, 그리고 플래시 몹, 이렇게 세 개의 모둠을 만들자."라는 말로 끝을 맺었다.

 

I decided to join the Flash Mob.

나는 플래시 몹에 참여하기로 결정했다.

 

It seemed cool and interesting!

그것은 멋지고 재미있을 것 같았다!

It is finally tomorrow.

드디어 내일이다.

 

Jiwon got the big card ready on which we wrote thank-you notes to the hidden heroes.

지원이가 커다란 카드를 준비했고 우리는 그 카드 위에 숨은 영웅들에게 감사 편지를 썼다.

 

Yeri and her group members tried several recipes and prepared all the ingredients to make delicious sandwiches.

예리와 그녀의 모둠원들은 몇 가지 요리법을 시도했고, 맛있는 샌드위치를 만들기 위한 모든 재료를 준비했다.

 

Some artistic classmates made a poster with a drawing of our special guests and put it on the blackboard with a thank-you banner.

몇몇 예술적 감각이 있는 친구들은 우리의 특별 초대 손님들의 모습을 그려 포스터를 만들었고 감사 현수막과 함께 그것을 칠판에 붙였다.

 

Our flash mob practice has entered its final stretch.

We made placards for our performance and prepared chants.

The biggest problem was me!

Every time we practiced, I was so nervous that I missed the timing.

D-day Celebrating the Class Event Day

D-day '학급 행사의 날' 축하하기

 

This was an unforgettable day!

잊을 수 없는 하루였다!

 

The flash mob we staged at lunch time was awesome!

점심시간에 우리가 연출한 플래시 몹은 정말 멋졌다!

 

We were eating lunch as usual, so nobody noticed that we had prepared this surprising invitation.

우리는 보통 때처럼 점심을 먹고 있었기 때문에 아무도 우리가 이런 깜짝 초대를 준비했다는 것을 눈치 채지 못했다.

 

One by one we sprang up from our seats, holding up each placard, and shouted the words on it: "Thank you for making delicious food for us!"

우리는 각자 플래카드를 들고 자리에서 한 명씩 일어나며 "저희를 위해 맛있는 음식을 만들어 주셔서 감사합니다!"라고 플래카드에 적힌 말을 외쳤다.

 

Then we delivered the invitation to the food service workers.

그러고 나서 급식 직원분들께 초대장을 전달했다.

 

Two hours later, a few classmates brought our heroes.

두 시간 후, 우리 반 친구 몇 명이 우리의 영웅들을 모셔왔다.

 

When they entered the classroom, they looked puzzled by the decorations.

교실에 들어왔을 때 그분들은 장식을 보고 어리둥절해하는 듯 보였다.

 

After guiding them to their seats, Jiwon gave them the thank-you card.

그분들을 자리로 안내한 후, 지원이가 감사 카드를 전달했다.

 

They read the card and smiled brightly.

그분들은 카드를 읽고 밝게 웃으셨다.

 

They said "Thank you" and ate the sandwiches.

그분들은 "고맙다"라고 말씀하시고 샌드위치를 드셨다.

 

It was difficult to prepare this project, but we cooperated well, organized ourselves, and made it successful.

이 프로젝트를 준비하는 것은 어려웠지만 우리는 잘 협력했고, 스스로를 조직했으며, 성공적으로 해냈다.

 

More importantly, participating in A Day to Express Gratitude made me realize there are unseen people who help me every day.

더 중요한 것은 '감사 표현의 날'에 참여하면서 매일 나를 도와주는 보이지 않는 사람들이 있다는 것을 깨닫게 되었다는 것이다.

 

I will remember to express my gratitude to them from now on.

이제부터는 그들에게 감사함을 표현해야 한다는 것을 기억할 것이다.

 

My classmates also seemed to learn a lot from the project.

우리 반 친구들도 프로젝트를 하면서 많은 것을 배운 것 같았다.

 

I was moved when they thanked us.

그분들이 우리에게 고마워할 때 감동받았어.

 

The little things we say and do leave a great impression on others.

우리가 말하고 행동하는 작은 것들이 다른 사람들에게 좋은 인상을 남길 수 있어.

 

I thought it was a waste of time at first.

처음에 나는 그것이 시간 낭비라고 생각했어.

 

Now I think we should try to do nice things for other people.

이제는 우리가 다른 사람들을 위해 좋은 일을 하려고 노력해야 한다고 생각해.

 

It makes them smile, which is good for us, too.

그것이 그들을 미소짓게 만들고, 우리에게도 좋은것이니까.
