  기름이 가득 찬 램프는 맑고 꾸준한 빛으로 타오르고, 자부심에 부풀어 오르기 시작하며 태양보다 더 밝게 빛났다고 자랑했습니다. 바로 그때 한 줄기 바람이 불어서 불을 꺼버렸어요.
  누군가가 성냥을 긋고 다시 불을 붙이더니, "태양은 신경쓰지 말고 계속 불붙은 상태로 있으세요. 또한 별들은 당신이 지금 바로 그랬던 것처럼 다시 불을 붙일 필요가 없습니다.

  우리 자신의 허영심이 가장 나쁜 아첨꾼이다.
