Same Story, Different Paintings

We often find different paintings with the same subject.

우리는 종종 같은 주제의 다른 그림들을 발견한다.

An example is The Flight of Icarus by Henri Matisse and The Fall of Icarus by Marc Chagall.

한 예가 Henri Matisse가 그린 "The Flight of Icarus(이카로스의 비행)“와 Marc Chagall이 그린 "The Fall of lcarus (이카로스의 추락)”이다

They are both about the same Greek myth.

그 둘 모두 같은 그리스 신화에 관한 것이다.

Daedalus was a great inventor.

Daedalus는 훌륭한 발명가였다.

King Minos liked Daedalus’ work so much that he wanted to keep Daedalus with him forever.

Minos왕은 Daedalus의 작품을 매우 좋아해서, 그를 그의 곁에 영원히 두고 싶어 했다.

Daedalus, however, tried to leave, so the King kept him and his son, Icarus, in a tall tower.

하지만 Daedalus는 떠나려고 했고, 그러자 왕은 그와 그의 아들인 Icarus를 높은 탑에 가두었다.

Daedalus wanted to escape.

Daedalus는 탈출하고 싶었다.

One day, Daedalus saw birds flying. “Wings! I need wings!” he shouted.

어느 날, Daedalus는 새가 날고 있는 것을 보았다. “날개! 날개가 필요해!” 그가 외쳤다.

Daedalus then gathered bird feathers and glued them together with wax.

When the wings were ready, he warned his son, “Don’t fly too close to the sun. The wax will melt.”

Daedalus and Icarus began to fly.

Two Different Paintings 다른 두 그림

 

Matisse and Chagall both deal with the same subject in their paintings, but they are different.

Matisse와 Chagall 둘 다 그들의 그림에서 같은 주제를 다뤘지만, 그것들은 다르다.

First, in Matisse’s painting, you can see Icarus flying, but in Chagall’s painting, the boy is falling.

This difference comes from the different ideas that the two painters had.

In Matisse’s painting, there are only Icarus and some stars.

Matisse의 그림에는 Icarus와 몇 개의 별들만 있다.

Furthermore, Icarus’ body has just a simple outline.

In contrast, Chagall painted many people and houses in addition to Icarus.

This difference comes from the different painting styles of the two painters.
